I was born and brought up in Liverpool but moved with my family to the Wirral in 1998. I studied English and French then worked as a secondary school teacher. Currently, I am employed by the University of Liverpool.
Apart from painting, my interests include language learning, local walks, and gardening. The gentle countryside of the Wirral and the closeness to the sea are always an inspiration.
I tend to use acrylic paint in my work, on a variety of surfaces including metal, canvas, hardboard and fabric. Some of my pieces include elements of collage.
When painting, the endlessness of colour choice gives me a sense of freedom and enjoyment; my fondness is for bright and bold colours which convey exuberance and energy.
It is important to me that my paintings reflect aspects of nature, but that they give a personal perspective and are not directly representational. Trees are magnificent, inspirational and seem to have an infinite complexity and diversity.
Also, through my paintings, I wish to express the uncertainties and unclear boundaries that are a part of life; and a progression through difficulties to greater strength, contentment, and understanding. The website is separated into three thematic sections, each defined by a couple of lines of poetry.
I hope you enjoy looking at my art and that it evokes curiosity and contemplation.
